Apple Compote
Easy, simple and all natural apple compote. Great to spread on toast, in your morning porridge or to make your cakes soft and moist.
Ingredients
- 7-8 apples (I used the old, ripe ones before they went off)
- 2-3 tbsp water
Optional
- 1/2 lemon juice and zest
- 1-2 tsp cinnamon powder
- 1 tsp grated ginger or powder (optional)
Instructions
-
Ideally get yourself some sweet organic apples (no need to peel!). Run and rub under water. Slice in quarters, remove the heart and seeds and chop into smaller cubes.
-
Set a pot or saucepan to medium-high heat on the stove. Add the apples and the rest of ingredients. I only used apples and water. Feel free to add any optional flavours. Mix and bring it to a light boil, then reduce heat to low, cover and let it simmer for 20 mins, or until the apples have softened.
-
Turn off the heat and let it sit, covered, for a while, while it cools down. Optional to blend it if you want a smoother texture. Enjoy!
Simple. Sweet. Natural. Life should be just like this apple compote.
You can enjoy on some toast, in porridge, served as a side to cake or pie… Quick little secret here: I also discovered that adding apple compote to sponge cake batter makes it extra moist and soft.
Hope you love this 1-ingredients recipe, it’s probably the simplest so far on the blog, and has made everyone very happy so far 🙂
